    Workshop for children: Nepomuk's bobble
    17H00 – 21H00

Have you ever admired Saint Nepomuk’s hat with its large bobble? This figure plays an important role in the national understanding of the Austrians, which is the subject of the exhibition Sub umbra alarum. Luxembourg, Fortress of the Habsburgs 1716-1741. Design your own hat decorations in this fun workshop.

  • Musée Dräi Eechelen
Performance: Georges Christen vs. Fort Thüngen
    18H00 | 20H00 | 22H00 | 00H00

Georges Christen, the strongest man in Luxembourg, is looking for a new adversary. This time, he’s measuring himself against history. Not even the fortress is safe. In a short tour of the museum, Georges Christen explores different aspects of the fortress and shows the audience how strong he really is.

  • Musée Dräi Eechelen
Musical performance: Lumaband – Luxembourg Marching Band
    17H30 | 19H30 | 21H30 | 23H30

A number of driven young musicians founded the Luxembourg Marching Band, Lumaband for short, in early 2006. Inspired by the show and marching bands of big American universities, the band is unique in terms of its style in Luxembourg and features around forty musicians from Luxembourg and abroad.

  • Musée Dräi Eechelen
Guided tours of the exhibition 'Sub umbra alarum. Luxembourg, fortress of the Habsburgers 1716-1741'
    18H45 (DE) | 20H45 (FR) | 22H45 (EN)

The exhibition Sub umbra alarum. Luxembourg, fortress of the Habsburgers 1716-1741 explores the extension of Luxembourg’s fortifications under the new Austrian regime, including the construction of Fort Thüngen in 1732. Imperial troops and their families settled in the Duchy of Luxembourg and left a permanent mark on local society.

The show documents the lives of the people behind the ramparts – Emperor Charles VI in Vienna, his sister, the Governor General of the Netherlands Maria Elisabeth in Brussels, the commander Wilhelm Reinhard von Neipperg and the engineer Simon de Bauffe –, shedding light on a period marked by three European wars of succession during which the fortress played a key role.

  • Musée Dräi Eechelen
Guided tours of the permanent collection and the casemates of Fort Thüngen
    17H00 (FR) | 18H30 (DE) | 20H30 (EN)

A guided tour featuring some of the key objects from the permanent collection will give you an insight into the history of Luxembourg’s fortress. To go with the current exhibition Sub umbra alarum. Luxembourg, fortress of the Habsburgers 1716-1741, the guides will take you to the underground gallery of Fort Thüngen, carved into the rock by military engineer Simon de Bauffe in 1732-33, which you will explore with flashlights and helmets.

Please note that this part of the tour is not accessible for people with reduced mobility or people who suffer from claustrophobia, as the gallery is about 2 meters high and 1 meter wide.

SUSTAINABILITY

Mir engagéieren eis

The Museum Night 2023 has received the logo ‘Mir engagéieren eis’ for its environmentally responsible organisation. The logo is awarded by the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development in the framework of the ‘Green Events’ project. More information on: greenevents.lu

We are committed to taking the following measures:

- Reducing printed material: our communications have been redesigned and the evening programme is now available exclusively online.

- Eco-logical printed materials! For our flyers and posters, we're printing in an environmentally-friendly way, using climate-neutral production and recycled paper that has been certified "Blue Angel", made from 100% waste paper. This means that no trees had to be felled for production and that its manufacture saves up to 70% of water and 60% of energy compared to paper made from virgin fibres. This choice of paper will also help our printing company to finance forest reforestation projects in Europe.

- In addition to free public transport, special shuttle buses will be circulating between the seven museums throughout the evening. Click above for the shuttle timetable. In addition to the historic buses – the traditional shuttles for the Museum Night for several years now – 100% electric mini-buses have being added to our offer. Take advantage of the free public transport to get to Luxembourg-City. You can also use the free public transport to get Luxembourg-City, and for your return benefit from the various Night Bus services, offered by multiple municipalities, so that you do not have to rely on your own car. Further information: www.mobiliteit.lu

- Recycling stations on site make it easy to sort the rubbish.

- A partly regional, local and organic culinary offer with vegetarian and vegan dishes

- Increased use of reusable tableware than last year

- Our partners waive the distribution of gadgets and single-use promotional items during the event.

SAY CHEESE !

Photos and videos of the activities and audience may be taken throughout the event. They will then be used across different channels for communication purposes. If you do not wish for your children or yourself to appear on these photos, please make this known at the information desk.
