- Nationalmusée um FëschmaartEuropean Day of Conservation-Restoration17H30 (FR) | 19H30 (LU) | 21H30 (LU) | 23H30 (EN)
To mark the European Day of Conservation-Restoration, which was established in 2018 and is celebrated on the second Sunday in October, the restorers at the MNAHA will offer a glimpse into different aspects of their work.
17H30 (FR): Photography techniques in the Steichen cabinet, by Francesca Vantellini | Wiltheim wing | 2nd floor
Have you ever wondered what the challenges of restoring and preserving Edward Steichen's photographs are? Our photography expert Francesca Vantellini will explore three different techniques – silver print, mechanical print and digital print – and reveal material differences between the photographs with the help of a magnifying glass, providing crucial information on how to handle them.19H30 (LU): Techniques used in Joseph Kutter's ‘Champion’, by Muriel Prieur | Wiltheim wing | 2nd floor
The Champion by Joseph Kutter is an exemplary work by the Luxembourg artist. The museum’s head restorer, Muriel Prieur, will speak about Kutter’s technique, his distinctive style and the specific methods developed to preserve the painting.21H30 (FR): The different stages of restoring a painting, by Laura Guilluy | Old Masters | 3rd floor
Find out how Jean Le Clerc’s Saint Paul Ermite reçoit la visite de Saint Antoine (1630) was restored in the Old Masters section of the museum. Our expert Laura Guilluy will explain the different stages of the project, during which we uncovered the artist's signature and gained insights into painter's technique, which blended practices from northern and southern Europe.23H30 (EN): Preventive conservation, by Leila Agadi | Wiltheim room | 4th floor
Taking the current exhibition ‘D‘histoires et d’art. Peindre au Luxembourg au XVIIIe siècle’ as an example, our preventive conservation expert Leila Agadi will explain the measures the museum has to take to preserve an artwork, from light and humidity levels through to pest prevention. The exhibition is an interesting example because the artworks on display are on loan from spaces like churches that don’t have the same controlled conditions as the museum. - Nationalmusée um FëschmaartMusical performance: Da Capo Quartet19H00 | 20H30 | 22H30
The Da Capo Quartet is made up of four young musicians who know each other from school and the conservatory of Luxembourg City. Their performance at the Nuit des Musées marks the beginning of their promising trajectory. They play in various orchestras together, including the Orchestre National des Jeunes. As members of Gen Z, they rebel against classical purism and do not limit themselves to playing pieces created long before they were born. Their set celebrates three great classical composers; Haydn, Mozart and Beyoncé.
By Emma Bauler and Julie Zwick (violin), Amélie Herold (viola), and Désirée Bonacci (cello)
- Nationalmusée um FëschmaartDance performance: Art makes history - Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg18H00 | 20H00 | 22H00 | 00H00

The exhibition D‘histoires et d’art is the perfect backdrop for the performance, as it too showcases untold stories of Luxembourg’s cultural heritage.

- Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart'Coup de cœur' with 'Gëlle Fro'21H00 & 23H00 (LU)
Philippe and Tom are the hosts of the No. 1 podcast in Luxembourg, ‘Gëlle Fro’. The two are 26 years old and studied and lived together at the University of Munich. It was there that they had the idea to start a podcast in Luxembourgish. Every two weeks, they invite exciting guests to join them in the Gruppetto and talk with them about God and the world. Thereby, one can discover the diversity of Luxembourg's culture and take a look behind the facades of the country's most famous personalities. Their guests range from Prime Minister Xavier Bettel to rapper Bazooka Brooze and Bishop an Cardinol Jean-Claude Hollerich. If they were now allowed to meet the Grand Duke himself one day, they would have achieved their goal.

- Nationalmusée um FëschmaartGuided tours of the exhibition 'The Alchemist. Selected works by Arthur Unger'17H15 (FR) | 18H15 (LU) | 21H15 (DE) | 00H15 (EN)
The Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart is delighted to showcase the unique work of Arthur Unger as part of its series on contemporary artists from Luxembourg.
Known for harnessing the transformational qualities of copper, Unger has often been called an alchemist. This reflects his deep concern with materiality that has defined his practice from the early 1970s onwards. In addition to inventing a new technique using fire and copper, Unger also experimented with the process of ink wash painting over the course of his career. The show juxtaposes these two key elements of his practice, illustrating how the medium often becomes the message in his works.
Form and content, thus, come together in a selection of highly expressive pieces from the 1970s through to the present day. Dive into Unger’s immersive world of copper and ink at the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart!
- Nationalmusée um FëschmaartGuided tours of the exhibition 'EMOP, Rethinking Identity. Je est un autre'17H45 (FR) | 20H45 (EN) | 22H45 (LU) | 23H45 (DE)
The Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart is once again taking part in the European Month of Photography, a biennial event which will be focusing on the theme of 'Rethinking Identity' this year.
Rimbaud's famous quotation 'Je est un autre', taken from a letter he wrote to Paul Demeny in 1871, refers to the poet as a multiple being, a diversity of personalities between identity and otherness. Paradoxically, this statement questions the construction of the subject in its relation to others. If these topics were at the centre of philosophical and psychological debates from existentialism and anti-psychiatry to feminism in the 1960s and 1970s, today postcolonial, postfeminist and gender studies focus more on the cultural and national dimensions in the correlation of the self and the other. The exhibition will feature the work of eight artists - Krystyna Dul, Corina Gertz, Katinka Goldberg, Lívia Melzi, Bruno Oliveira, Zanele Muholi, Lunga Ntila, Frida Orupabo - who all explore the subject of identity in different and distinct ways.
- Nationalmusée um FëschmaartGuided tours of the exhibition 'D’histoires et d’art. Peindre au Luxembourg au XVIIIe siècle'Feel free to visit the show at any time during the evening
Dive into the fascinating lives and works of 18th century painters from Luxembourg in our immersive new show at the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart. Offering a glimpse into a little-known chapter of the country’s art history, D‘histoires et d’art explores the lived reality of artists in the 1700s and the intriguing paintings they produced, from altarpieces and other religious works through to portraits and still lifes.
As a nod to the era, all the artworks are hung on a single wall, transforming the exhibition space into a sumptuous 18th century salon. As visitors admire the paintings, the room changes around them, projecting a wide range of videos onto the wall that immerse the viewer in the stories behind the paintings and their makers. From the price of paintings through to the trends of the day, the show offers a unique insight into the art scene of the 18th century.

- Reducing printed material: our communications have been redesigned and the evening programme is now available exclusively online.
- Eco-logical printed materials! For our flyers and posters, we're printing in an environmentally-friendly way, using climate-neutral production and recycled paper that has been certified "Blue Angel", made from 100% waste paper. This means that no trees had to be felled for production and that its manufacture saves up to 70% of water and 60% of energy compared to paper made from virgin fibres. This choice of paper will also help our printing company to finance forest reforestation projects in Europe.
